Non Vintage Waugh JR Red Blend

A blend of all our red varietals, Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa and Sonoma), Merlot, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Barbera, with a new twist. This is the first time we are releasing a Non Vintage Red Junior. We started holding back a few barrels from each vintage of all the red varietals. Red Junior will not only be a blend of our 9 red varietals, but 5 vintages of each varietal.

It has great construction on the palate with blackcurrants, cherries and soft wood spicing with concentration and drive. The aromas and flavors open and evolve after a few minutes in the glass giving succulent sweet cherry and blueberry notes alongside some delicious herb and clove elements. The quality of tannin is exquisite with wonderful polish and refinement. Junior comprises roughly 15% of all Waugh Family Wines production. More than 50 lots are vinified separately, aged separately then blended and 5 vintages worth of each variety is used for blending to create Junior.

The back of the Junior bottle tells the story of Junior and how it came about. If you were not aware of what inspired Waugh Cellars business model and the Junior label, the back of the bottle will now tell you. It was an episode of Seinfeld called The Opposite that really spoke to Ryan and the business plan was titled, The Costanza.
