The 2023 growing season in Napa Valley is already being celebrated as one of the finest in recent memory — a long, cool, and remarkably even vintage that allowed the fruit to ripen slowly and beautifully. A wet winter replenished soils and supported healthy canopy growth, while cooler-than-average temperatures throughout the season delayed development and extended hang time. The result was exceptional balance, vibrant natural acidity, and impressive phenolic maturity.

In Yountville — one of Napa Valley’s cooler growing regions with an extended season — these conditions were ideal for Merlot, allowing gradual flavor development and refined structure.

Stylistically, the 2023 Merlot follows the rich, expressive character of our 2018 release, while showing slightly firmer tannins and added structural precision — a hallmark of this remarkable vintage.

Tasting Notes

·Color:Deep ruby with vibrant saturation and brilliant clarity.

·Aromas:Ripe plum, blackberry, and boysenberry layered with violets, cocoa, and subtle mocha, accented by hints of warm spice.

·Palate:Rich and beautifully textured, with dense dark fruit that coats the palate. Layers of chocolate, espresso, and savory undertones add depth and dimension while maintaining freshness and focus.

·Acidity:Bright and balanced, lifting the fruit and providing energy and definition.

·Tannins:Slightly firmer and more structured than the 2018, offering refined grip and excellent aging potential while remaining polished and elegant.

·Finish:Long, smooth, and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, cocoa, and a structured, harmonious close.
