Before the record breaking rain fall of winter 2023, there was the winter of 2019, which saw lots of flooding, but also refilled aquifers and lakes. A relatively cool spring followed, delaying bud break into late March and early April. With a later bud break and cool temperatures, we were trending for a normal start time for harvest—well into September rather than the August harvest starts we experienced during the drought years. The biggest surprise in the 2019 growing season was the two inches of rainfall in early May. Our vineyards had not begun flowering due to the cool spring, so yields were not impacted. With average temperatures throughout the summer, the grapes matured and ripened beautifully.
Raspberries, strawberry and wild cherry dominate the nose with underlying tones of wild flowers and oak. Hints of jasmine, honeysuckle, and rose petals further the intrigue. The palate shows incredible brightness and purity, coupled with a full mouthfeel that delivers flavors of fresh cherries, garden herbs, and sweet baking spice.
ENJOY!
Cheers!
