Vintage Description

The 2022 Napa Valley vintage was famously dubbed a “tale of two harvests”. A heat wave in early September compressed the timeframe, triggering a fast-paced initial pick, followed by a mid-to-late September rain that briefly halted harvest. Waugh was all picked out by the time the rains hit.  Red varieties from this vintage have been widely praised for their deep color, structured balance, luxurious tannins, and fruit‑forward aromatics, showcasing both finesse and power. Napa Valley harvest overall began on schedule but unfolded rapidly due to weather extremes, with average yields down slightly and exceptional fruit quality across all red varietals.

• Color:Deep garnet with a vibrant ruby rim.
• Aromas:Lush black cherry and cassis intertwine with notes of graphite, violet, dried herbs, and a hint of cedar.
• Palate:Full-bodied and seamless, offering concentrated flavors of blackberry compote, dark plum, and blackcurrant, layered with mocha, fine baking spice, and a whisper of toasted oak.
• Acidity & Structure:Silky, balanced acidity supports the rich fruit, leading into a frame of elegant, finely-grained tannins.
• Finish:Long and resonant—dark fruit, subtle spice, and smooth tannic grip linger on the palate.
